Yiannis Anastasiou leaves Anderlecht for Roda
Posted: August 08, 2000 at 17:27 PM EST (22:27 PM GMT)

Anderlecht's Greek striker, Yiannis Anastasiou, is leaving the Belgian club after an agreement has taken place for his transfer to Dutch club Roda for an estimated 385 million drachmas. Anderlecht's management was not happy with Anastasiou's performances with their club and they opted to sell the player to Roda. Anastasiou was transferred to Anderlecht from Greek club OFI in 1998 but was never able to get a starting line-up spot although his early stages with the club were promising. Finally, the 27-year old player never proved himself to Anderlecht coach Eime Antheounis and his situation became tougher when Anderlecht acquired Czech national Jan Koller.

Anastasiou played only 10 games this past season and scored 4 goals. This past Saturday he came in as a substitution in the Belgian Super Cup and score a goal (penalty) in Anderlecht's 4-1 win over Gegk. Since the Greek striker wasn't seeing a light at the end of the tunnel he agreed to the transfer terms to Dutch club Roda trying to follow Nikos Machlas's footsteps.
